Unni Pindi (Banana stem) Thoran
¼ kg unnipindi
½ cup whole masoor or chawli
1 tsp chilly flakes or chilly powder
Salt
Turmeric powder
Curry leaves
Small onions
Garlic cloves
Curry leaves
1-2 tbsp scraped coconut
Oil
Soak masoor in water for 1-2 hours.
Remove the outer layer of unnipindi and cut into small pieces.
Add water and turmeric powder, keep stirring with fork, so that the strings
come out of the unnipindi. Discard the strings and wash it.
In a kadai, heat oil, add crushed garlic and onions and
saute. Add curry leaves. When garlic has browned, add chilli powder and saute.
Now drain water out of the masoor and add it into the masala and saute. Let it
cook for 5 minuts. Now add the unni pindi, salt and turmeric. Add one cup
water. Cook for 10-15 minutes. Add coconut and mix well. Serve as side-dish to rice.
