Lapsi Khichdi



Lapsi / Daliya Khichdi

1 cup Lapsi (broken wheat)
¼ cup moong dal.
1 onion
1 tsp grated ginger
2-3 green chillies chopped
2 tomatoes
Hing powder
Salt
Turmeric
Mustard seeds
Coriander leaves
1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
1 tbsp ghee

Optional vegetables.
1 potato, 1 carrot, 2-3 beans
½ cup green peas.

1 dalchini
2-3 lavang
3-4 whole pepper

Soak Lapsi and Moong dal in water for an hour. Drain water and keep aside.

Heat oil. Add mustard, whole garam masala, ginger and saute. Add chopped onion, green chillies, and saute till onions become pink color. Add tomatoes and hing powder. Then add any of the above vegetables and saute. Add lapsi and moong dal and lemon juice. Add water. 1 cup lapsi=3-4 cups water. Additional water may be added if required. Add salt and turmeric power and cook for 10-15 minutes. Add coriander leaves. Last add ghee and mix well. Switch off flame and let it cook in its own steam. Keep stirring occasionally. Khichdi is ready.  Serve with Curd & Pickle.
