Malvani Chicken Shagoti (Xacuti)
1 tbsp lime juice
1 cup coriander leaves
2 green chillies, chopped
8 garlic cloves
1 inch ginger
5 tbsp oil
1 inch cinnamon stick
2 stone flower pieces (dagadphool)
1 star anise
5-6 black peppercorns
2-3 cloves
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp white seasame seeds
1 tsp poppy seeds
1 tsp caraway seeds (Shahi jeera)
½ cup fresh scraped coconut
2 medium onions, finely chopped
1 onion, sliced
1 tsp red chilly powder
1 tsp garam masala pdr
1 tsp coriander-cumin pdr
1/4th tsp nutmeg pdr
3 tomatoes
· Marinate chicken with lime juice, salt and set aside.
· Grind fresh coriander, green chillies, garlic and ginger to a fine paste. Add this paste to the chicken and mix well and set aside· Heat 2 tbsp oil in a nonstick pan. Add all the whole masalas and saute till fragrant.
· Add 1 sliced onion and saute till dark brown
· Add the coconut and saute till golden brown.
· Allow the mixture to cool and make paste of it, adding water.
· Heat oil in a pan and add ginger-garlic paste and saute till raw flavor goes. Now add the 2 chopped onions and saute till transclucent.
· Add the masala powders (red chilli pdr, coriander-cumin pdr, garam masala powder) and mix well. Add tomatoes and sauté.· Add the marinated chicken, along with some water and saute on high flame for 2 minutes.
· Now add the ground coconut paste and mix well. Cover and cook till done.
· Garnish with coriander leaves.
